Those participating in this capacity are advised by the Referee or Site Referee on court assignments and responsibilities, which may include the following:

1. Control assigned courts
2. Measure net at the beginning of the first match and other appropriate times
3. Time warm-up and, when possible announce “two minutes” before end of period, and announce “time” when play is to begin
4. Call foot faults, (remembering that there is never a warning)
5. Stop play when a code violation is observed and seek assistance from the Referee or other official
6. File suspension point reports with Referee concerning offenses observed or heard
7. Settle scoring disputes on a limited basis
8. Overrule a clear mistake
9. Time rest periods
10. Record match scores
11. Inform tournament desk of open courts and progress of matches in play
12. When necessary have certified Official deal with questions of rule interpretation
13. Call the score if assigned to only one court.

* It should be noted that court monitors are not USTA-certified officials, but they can accumulate community service hours that may be required for college entrance and/or scholarship applications, or high school graduation. Under the guidance of a Tournament Referee, sanctioned tournaments are authorized to use Court Monitors, who assume limited duties and responsibilities to ensure fair play and sportsmanlike conduct in conformity with USTA regulations, The Code of Conduct and Rules of Tennis.
